Do you believe that dreams of lost ones is a way to communicate with them?

I used to fully believe this until recently.

One of my good friends died this past year 20 minutes into the new year. Only 18 years old... over a drunken mistake. Anyways, I think about him everyday and can't seem to get over the fact that he's gone.

Now this seems a little extreme... but someone told me that when a person dreams or thinks they see someone that they have lost that it is really just the devil disguising to get close to you.
I am not a very religious person per sue .. but this has got me thinking.

I've now had 4 dreams or so with my dead friend in them. They are not memories that I've had with him or anything.

My first couple of dreams before I heard about this 'devil' thing I was not scared of my friend. The last dream I had of him last night turned from happy to see him to being extremely scared to the point I started screaming in my dream to wake up.

My other friend had a dream of him also that went from happy to scary instantly when he grabbed her wrist and started clenching it harder and harder.

... in all my dreams he is sad looking and I can't help but think that is because he wasn't supposed to go that night.

What do you think this all is?
Any personal experiences?
Do you think that dreams are a way of communicating?

The idea of a devil is a construct devised by the Roman Catholic church. (No offense to catholics.) Early Christians, in particular early Gnostic christians did not teach such things. The devil, and Satan was added to religious texts in order to control the people of Rome at the time Christianity was bastardized by Constantine. First, you should address this issue of the devil and remind yourself that you are okay, you are safe, and no supposed devil can hurt you. Secondly, as for the friend in your dream. This actually sounds to me like your friend is visiting you in your dreams and that he may be earthbound. Spirits can become earthbound for many different reasons, one of which can be long held religious beliefs that leave them with a fear of going to hell and such stuff as that, so they will actually be afraid to step over into the other side. They will remain near their earthly homes, friends, and family. Start journaling your dreams and see if you notice any recurring symbols, themes, or colors. Your friend may be trying to tell you that he is earthbound and afraid to go into the light. If this is the case, during the day, when you are alone and you feel the presence of your friend, speak to him out loud. Tell him that you understand, that you love him, and that it is okay for him to go into the light. Once he goes into the light, he will be safe and happy. He can visit you anytime he wants to. He will lose nothing and gain everything. I hope this is helpful. Good luck.

Do not be afraid. It is natural to think or dream of people we have known, both living and dead. You must remember that dreams are your subconscious trying to work things out. Take what you can from the dreams. Remember your friend and realize that he died because of a stupid mistake. Perhaps that can help you help yourself and others.

It is true that the dead can not come back to communicate with us, and yes demons do masquerade as the dead.

While death is certainly hard on those left behind, no man dies before their time, everyone has an appointed time, and the bible says no man passes that appointed time.

It is entirely dependent upon the dream to discern if the spirit is demonic set out to deceive you, or a way for an angel to communicate or even just you trying to get past your own sadness and guilt over his death. You will always know from what source it comes by the tone and message of the dream.

Your friend having her dream as she did, has no bearings on yours.Nor does it prove that the spirit in your dream was demonic.

However, she might want to consider it for herself.

Dreams are very much a way to communicate, but not from the dead, God, Holy Spirit, angels communicate with us through dreams sometimes, as well as demons torment us through dreams, via nightmares, etc. God can correct us through dreams, which can be scary, but not like that of a nightmare brought on by evil spirits.

My brother was murdered, and I often dreamed of him, being sad and besides myself, thoughts of revenge and hate for those who took his life, he was murdered on my birthday, and down the street from my house from a supposed friend, one he knew most his life.

I sooo longed and wished it was true that I could communicate with him, and I actually started to think perhaps i was wrong. However when the spirit literally rolled me over in the bed and touched my arm. I was wide awake, and it was morning so I saw perfectly. And things starting get really hairy around there I knew that it was demonic.

But I also know that I opened my self up to it from my grief, hatred and thoughts of revenge. Of course I thank God that he delivered me.

I lived in a house that was haunted, and one spirit showed it self as a little girl, many saw her, daylight or dark the spirit was active, until it tried to harm my youngest daughter who was at the time 7.

I still have dreams of my dead dad and some times my brother, and I do know it contains a message, but not from them, or about them.

The bottom line is no matter how much we wish we could, its just not so, so don't let yourself be deceived in such matters, it can get bad if we do.

And I think your dream from what your posted comes from your subconscious trying to deal with your lose.

When you can find forgiveness in your heart for the person who took his life, then your healing process will begin. If you can't seem to find it, then pray the Lord will put it in your heart.

I know it's hard, but with God's love and strength it can be done.

hey don't worry... see these dreams are reciprocates of what you think... when you thought dreams were in a way just modes of contact they never scared you... the time you thought them scary they turned scary... yes dreams sometimes do feel to be communicators... i had a dream about my expired granddad that he is passing me a huge piece of bread and when i go up to share up with all he denies.. and i slowly felt that it meant we as a family must remain one.. so this is so.. but i feel try to just keep good memories alive with that friend and trying to stop getting worried or obsessed with any fearful thought... good luck...

well you got all worked over about the "devil" thing that you started to dream it scary. It's a way you can talk to them without them really being alive at all. It's a way to comfort you telling YOU that it's alright.

I think that your dreams may have become more frightening because your worry about this devil statement that someone made to you.Your scared for your friend who died so young and subconsciously its manifesting itself into a nightmare. You have to let that go.You should talk to someone professional who can help you cope with your friends passing.

I think dreams are just dreams. Possibly a way of communicating, but I believe that if you have to ask if it was, then it wasn't.

I quite agree with Max.

It's posssible for the devil(demon) to disguise himself as your good friend who had passed away in your dreams. We called this kind of demon as "familiar spirit". It's called familiar spirit because this spirit(demon) is familiar with your friend(he knows how your friend look like or how he behaved). That's why he can disguised as your friend.

Let me explain very briefly what are the "sources" of our dreams:

1)Our brain activities. Our brain can generate dreams from past events in our lives randomly.

2)The reflections of our hearts or things that are going through our lives. Our dreams sometimes reflect things that going through our lives such as sadness, fear, worry, disappointment, etc...

3)God or angels. God or angels can sometimes speak to us through dreams.

4)Satan and demons. Satan and demons can also speak or appear to us through dreams.

It's quite possible that the "source" of your dreams is from No.4(demon), because you mentioned that your dream and your friend's dream are "frightening". Both your dream and your friend's dream could be from the same "source".

Another thing that you need to take note, "How did he talk to you?" Did he communicate in an "active - interactive" way rather than just "passive dream" where you just flowed with it? If yes, then it's possible that it's a demon who spoke to you. A demon has personality and he can communicate & express himself when he appear in your dream.

To me, a passive kind of dream is usually the result of our brain activities and not from demon.

My sister and my mum had a dream about my dad after he passed away. But later on we realized that the dreams came from a demonic source.

Note: The term "familiar spirit" can be found in the Bible. The existence of devil & demons are true and can be found throughout the Bible from Genesis(first book of the Bible) to Revelation(last book of the Bible).

When Jesus was on the earth, there were many occasions where He casted out demons from people who were possessed or oppressed by demons. And when Jesus sent His disciples out to preach the gospel, He commanded them to cast out demons and to heal the sick(Matthew 10:8).

But many people today are unaware about the existence of demons and they couldn't discern between good and evil or between demons and angels.

The term "demon" is sometimes called as unclean spirit, evil spirit, etc.

If you're interested to search through the Bible to find out what it says about "demon", please check this website:
